I think kids need to be chatting and sharing information with each other more.
Confidence will come from them finding the answers themselves.
Providing tasks where our kids can build their confidence with finding the answer to the problem or question on their own. Rather than running straight to the teacher.
Providing lessons that teach them how to problem solve rather than give them the answer.
Working more in small collaborative groups and prepare the students to be able to deal with the surprises in life based problems/questions. Don't let them memorise the skills, they need to understand them.
I think there will always be a place for giving/feeding information to primary aged kids....but we need to continue to refine our inquiry program to including more child centered/child choice.
Help kids to understand that it's ok to fail, fail and fail again before they succeed. Failing is a way of learning, learning from our mistakes.
Could students be working on problems they want to find the answers to?
Thanks for your post Leish. You had some great comments in there regarding the future of learning.
ReplyDeleteIn response to your question, students definitely could be working on problems that they want to find answers to. I provided this webpage to Maddy, so I will do the same for you:

Have a look from the bottom of page 7 through to page 9. This outlines Michael Fullan's 6Cs for 21st century learning. As teachers, we provide the curriculum content and technology can be used as a tool to support the 6 qualities.
